Honor Flight

Guardian Application

Veteran Application
NEXT 2023 MISSION IS SCHEDULED FOR 4 NOV 2023

The Honor Flight Network is a national charitable organization established in 2005, shortly after completion of the National WWII Memorial on the Mall in Washington D.C.  The organization's initial mission was to provide free transportation with dedicated companion guardians for each veteran to visit the new memorial. The mission is now expanded and many chapters are including Korean War and Vietnam War veterans and their respective monuments on the trip.  Companion guardians are frequently sons, daughters or grandchildren.  Otherwise, guardians are volunteers wanting to help honor the veterans. There are 120 local chapters in 44 states. Since its inception, Honor Flight has escorted over 250,000 veterans to Washington.

On November 2, 2019, the Old Dominion Honor Flight took 86 Veterans from WWII, Korean War, and Vietnam to Washington D.C. See the photos of their memorable trip. 23 April 2022 was the #2 mission.

For ten years, our local chapter was Honor Flight Historic Triangle.  In 2019, the chapter became the Old Dominion Honor Flight. The local chapter draws veterans from central and southern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.  Missions include stops at the WWII Memorial, the Korean Memorial, the Vietnam Memorial, the Arlington National Cemetery, The Marine Corps Museum at Quantico and some other area memorials, as time permits.  Three meals are also provided during the mission.  There is no cost for the veteran. Guardians pay their own cost.  Due to our proximity to Washington and our ability to add buses as needed, we have no waiting list.  Honor Flight is capable of taking veterans in wheelchairs.

The last Honor Flight mission was on 22 April 2023.  We had one member who went on this Honor Flight.

Veterans or guardians desiring to participate can fill out the application and mail it to the address shown on the application. Please click on the PDF forms for the Veteran and/or Guardian which are on this page.

This is a amazing experience for both veteran and guardian. Those that have been participants have always expressed sincere appreciation for the opportunity.

VIPMOAA has supported this program since inception with a financial contribution and many VIPMOAA members attend the Send Off Ceremony in Williamsburg or Newport News for each mission. The time and location for the Send Off will be announced in the Newsletter.  All members are encouraged to add their support by being there. Bring a flag to wave!

Financial support is greatly appreciated. To donate please go to the Donations page on the Old Dominion Honor Flight website.

If you have questions, call 877-261-3430.

You can also call VIPMOAA member Jack Greenhalgh at 757-345-5506. He has participated in five missions as a guardian and one as a veteran.
