VIPMOAA is proud to support and mentor the Cadets at our 3 local colleges and those in the 11 JROTC programs at the high schools.  Three commissioning (W&M, CNU, HU) were published in our June Newsletter. We have 11 high schools to whom we award leadership and scholarship awards. 

Graduation ceremonies at the local high schools include VIPMOAA Leadership and Scholarship awards to Cadets in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program.  The JROTC program nurtures a sense of civic duty and leadership in these young men and women.  Students are taught the skills of self-discipline, self-confidence, and leadership which will help them meet the challenges of adulthood. The program is conducted at secondary schools by instructors who are retired Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine corps, and Coast Guard officers and enlisted personnel.  The program can be but is not necessarily a pathway for a career in the military.

In addition to our dedicated support for the JROTC Program, VIPMOAA also supports the Reserve Officers Traininig Corps (ROTC) at the three local colleges and universities, W&M, Hampton Univ, and Christopher Newport Univ.  VIPMOAA awards an achievement certificate, the MOAA  medal, and a $500 stipend to an outstanding Junior year cadet. We award a set of 2nd Lieutenant bars, a certificate citing Welcome into the Officers Corps, along with a free introductory membership in MOAA, to Senior cadets who are commissioned.
