2019 Awards

Another successful ROTC/JROTC award program has been accomplished in 2019 thanks to our 15 VIPMOAA presenters, as well as our generous donors. Fifty-two awards were presented in April & May 2019 to 3 ROTC units and 11 JROTC units as follows:
·   13 – Leadership - Jr year Awards (2 ROTC & 11 JROTC)
 
·   11 - $500 JROTC Scholarships (Senior cadets)
 
·   28 -  2LT Commission certificates & bars (3 ROTC units)
 
April 18th Jim Pauls awarded Junior year cadet, Habibka Sterling, a student at Hampton University, the MOAA Leadership certificate, Leadership Medal, and a $100 VIPMOAA check.  
 
A second Award Program was  held on April 24th at the Sadler Center’s Commonwealth Auditorium  at William & Mary College (W&M) and ROTC Cadets from W&M and Christopher Newport University participated.  PM&S Dustin A. Menhart presided over the awards program. Bill Armbruster presented Cadet Parker with the MOAA Leadership Medal and a $100 check. In addition, the Cadet Change of Command was conducted by LTC Menhart, W&M/CNU PM&S as part of the program.  Unit Flag with Award Ribbons were passed on from 2019 Cadet Cdr to newly assigned 2020 Cdr.
 
A third Award Program was held at the Gloucester, VA JROTC unit on April 24, 2019. Joe Syslo presented the MOAA Leadership Medal and $25 gift card to Cadet Liam Skiles, a Junior Year Cadet. 
 
On May 9th at the Warwick High school JROTC Awards program, Cadet Joshua Buckingham received a $500 scholarship from VIPMOAA's Paul Miyamasu.
 
On May 10th at the Menchville JROTC awards program, Steve Modul presented the $500 scholarship to Senior year Cadet Vivian Khu.
 
VIPMOAA's Capt USN Sheryll Elston presented the Commissioning certificate to 2LT Hayley Burton at the William & Mary Commissioning on May 10th.
 
New 2LT Thomas Harwood (INF) received Commission Certificate from LTG Wesley at the W&M presentation. Katherine Rowe, Chancellor of W&M, and former Defense Secretary Robert Gates were in attendance. 
 
LTG Eric J. Wesley commissions new 2LTs Hayley Burton, Matthew Chu, Thomas Harwood, and Audrey Lloyd at the W&M Commissioning on May 10th.  
 
Ron Corson represented VIPMOAA at the Christopher Newport University commissioning for 10 new 2LT on May 10th.
 
The commissioning at Hampton University took place on Saturday May 11, 2019.  Frank Duckett was pleased to be the VIPMOAA representative at the commissioning. 
 
On May 16th  at the Denbigh High School JROTC award program, Jim Murphy presents the MOAA Leadership Award and $25 to Junior Year Cadet Charlyne-Joy Dela Cruz.  
 
Jim presents the $500 VIPMOAA Scholarship Award to Cadet Maria Elisha Saba.
